The Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition was a smashing success!
The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) is proud to present the 2006 Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition (GLRBC), hosted by Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea, January 7 & 8, 2006. The event will be held at Kendall College in Chicago, Illinois. The first place winner of the 2006 GLRBC will be eligible to compete in the semi-finals round at the 2006 United States Barista Championship (USBC) held in conjunction with the SCAA's 18th Annual Conference & Exhibition, April 7-10, 2006 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 2006 Great Lakes Regional Barista Competition (GLRBC) is open to anyone who would like to compete regardless of association membership. In order to win the GLRBC all competitors must hold or be eligible to hold a United States passport and reside or work in one of the following states: WI, IL, MI, IN or OH. Only two competitors per company will be confirmed to compete up to 17 days prior to the first day of the 2006 GLRBC. (Please note: A tax identification number defines a company.) Seventeen days prior to the start of the 2006 GLRBC, December 19, 2005, additional competitors from companies who already have two competitors confirmed, will be confirmed to compete if spots are available. If a third competitor from the same company is confirmed to compete, a fourth competitor will not be confirmed to compete until all other companies on the waiting list have a third competitor represented. Once all companies on the waiting list have equal representation on the 2006 GLRBC competitor roster, the next competitor on the waiting list would be confirmed as the fourth competitor from that company to compete at the 2006 GLRBC.
Seventeen days prior to the start of the 2006 GLRBC, December 19, 2005, competitors who reside and work out of the Great Lakes Region will be confirmed as competitors; however, he/she will only be allowed to compete in the First Round of the 2006 GLRBC in order to practice and polish his/her competition skills. Competitors who work and reside out of the Great Lakes Region will not be allowed to advance to the Finals Round at the 2006 GLRBC.
