Deanna Myers is the Barista of the Month for September/October 2006 at our Millennium Park Intelligentsia Café.  She has been with Intelligentsia since our store opened in April but she has spent a total of five years in the coffee industry.

Deanna’s road to Intelligentsia has been interesting, to say the least… “When I was a little kid, I was so hyper that I wasn't allowed to consume caffeine. This naturally led to a curiosity about coffee that became evident by the time I was 5. It was at this tender age that I tasted my first cup of coffee....decaf freeze-dried grocery store brand... yumdiddlyumptious!  I was sure that somewhere, someday, I would find a much better cup o' joe and as such, began to search.  Of course I started with the frilly drinks until I began working in coffee shops for the free fix.  I didn't know until I moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, though, that there were independent roasters and cafés that paid more attention to the quality of product than the catchy names of their drinks.  A friend from Chicago introduced me to Intelligentsia coffee, and upon moving here several months later, I single-mindedly began pursuing a position with the company.”  The rest, as they say, is history.

Deanna is currently pursuing a Bachelor in both Theatre Performance and Biology and is part of a small production company in Chicago which she founded with her dreamy boyfriend, Don, and some other amazing artists, writers, actors, and craftsmen. Her passions and hobbies include setting up friends with regulars of the Millennium Park store, art, film, music, dance, theatre, waxing philosophical at inappropriate moments, animal rights, and culinary arts.  She is a firm believer in the value of compassion, friendship, loyalty, and the satisfaction that comes with a really great set of bangs.

Deanna digs the cortado for its simple and straight-forward nature. She is proud of the excellence that Intelligentsia strives for in both product and character, and she is currently surrounded by those who make me think, laugh, and offer support on a constant basis.

Last thought for the regulars: “Please let us know when you go outta town.  When you don't show up for your daily fix, we begin to worry!”
