PRESS - DELTA SKY MAGAZINE: 5 FAB PLACES FOR A GREAT LATTE
Delta Sky features Intelligentsia Coffee as one of their 5 favorite places for a cup of coffee in North America
5 FAB Places for a Great Latte A classic American latte (for a 12-ounce serving, one shot of espresso combined with steamed milk) goes down smooth, with a long finish and velvety foam (considered a thin crema). Here are some favorites of Kristine Hansen, co-author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Coffee & Tea (Alpha Books, $18.95). (Prices reflect the cost of a latte before service and tax.)
INTELLIGENTSIA 3123 North Broadway, Chicago; 773-348-8058; www.intelligentsiacoffee.com; $2.65
Drop into this Windy City java stop and, if you’re in luck, you can watch 2006 U.S. Barista Champion Matt Riddle work his magic, thanks to an elevated bar. Buying much of its coffee directly from farmers, Intelligentsia offers freshly roasted beans of the highest quality (featured, for example, in Intelligentsia’s famed Black Cat Blend espresso). Expect superb lattes and a casual, homey atmosphere, with rustic wooden tables scattered about the store. If weather allows, admittedly unlikely this month, take advantage of the store’s location across from Millennium Park and sit outside on the retro-fabric benches.
